Weerbaar Dommelland
Working together towards a climate-resilient and robust water system in the Dommel Valley.

Together with Belgian and Dutch partner organisations, Museumpark VONK is working on a climate-resilient and robust water system in the Dommel Valley as part of the European Interreg Flanders-Netherlands programme. Through the Weerbaar Dommelland project, we contribute to this goal in two ways.
Firstly, in partnership with the municipality of Eindhoven, we have transformed the former riding school site into a space that serves partly as a public park and partly as a museum park. The creation of a climate-resilient landscape, including ponds and swales, increases the water retention capacity of the Genneper Parks area.

Secondly, Interreg funding is being used to reduce pressure on the sewer system during periods of heavy rainfall and high visitor numbers.
The building's green roof captures and retains rainwater, creating a sponge effect during intense downpours. Wastewater from the toilets is treated through a constructed wetland filtration system and reused to irrigate the roof during dry periods. In this way, we reduce peak loads on the sewer network during busy days and avoid using mains water for irrigation.
The Weerbaar Dommelland project is funded by the European Interreg Flanders-Netherlands Programme and runs from 1 March 2024 to 28 February 2027.
