XL band weaving
XL band weaving
What happens when you take a traditional craft and make it supersized?
Gather around an enormous band-weaving loom and find out how to get it moving by working together.
Weaving is an ancient technique that has changed very little over the centuries. Although weaving can now be done by machine, it was once entirely done by hand. In band weaving, threads are woven together to create a narrow band or ribbon, which can be decorative or practical, for example as a belt.
For this activity, we’ve taken band weaving to the extreme. Instead of a narrow strip, we’ll work together to create one on a much bigger scale. Take a closer look and you’ll clearly see how the individual threads interweave.
This activity runs continuously in the Werkplaats van Verbeelding.
